Voice of Unheard is a multimedia installation inspired by the story of Pastor Martin Luther King, Jr. that visualizes the phrase "the voice of the unheard." The work consists of three videos and one sculpture.
βNoiseβ
The two video works that fill one wall are a collage of footage of Tucker Carlson, an anchor for the right-wing American media outlet Fox News. The two videos, played at maximum volume, create a point where "voice" turns into "noise" through the overlapping of sound. When you enter the room, the news footage becomes noise that can no longer convey a message. This signifies that the voices of the white privileged class are constantly being reproduced through the media as repetitive and violent propaganda.
βSilenceβ
The video is an interview with people of color about racial prejudice. At the end of the headphones through which you can hear their voices is a concrete casting. They continue to speak amid the noise, but their voices cannot reach anyone in the space.
The space places the audience in a point where no message can be conveyed between noise and silence.
